Computer Repair Tuneup Tips Part 1

By: Erik Davies

Having a computer that runs smoothly and efficiently is not nearly as difficult to achieve than most people thing. Unfortunately for most individuals out there, the computer is a foreign object that has taken up habitat in their living or work environment.

Having a computer tuned up by a professional can be costly but the benefits are definitely worth the results. Where do you put a value on your time? If a computer technician can come to you, increase the speed and efficiency of your computer and save you large amounts of time, then isn't that worth it?

One thing is certain, there are many parts to a computer, both hardware and software. Each and every one of these items can adversely affect the performance of your computer. Just one of these items is the RAM, which all by itself can really impact the speed and performance of your computer.

The definition of the acronym RAM is "Random Access Memory" and it is well suited for use in computers and is also used in many other electronic devices. Just one of these is the modern day printer, although you will find RAM in TV sets, Scanners, Household Appliances and much more. Upgrading this one item will help speed up your PC.

On Microsofts website it states that the minimum amount of RAM for a pc running windows XP is 64 Megs. I can tell you right now from experience that any computer out there with only 64 Megs of RAM is in big trouble if they expect to run XP smoothly.

Prior to the Service Pack 2 upgrade that Microsoft sent out for Windows XP users most computers shipped with 256 MEG's of RAM and this was sufficient. However, after Service Pack 2 is installed, any machine with only 256 Megs of RAM will run very slow.

Hopefully at this point you have decided to add RAM to your computer! RAM is easy to locate both in stores and on your botherboard. I would disregard the MS website when it refers to the amount of RAM you really need. Just remember that when running both Windows XP and Service Pack 2 together you will need at least 512 MEG's of RAM to keep your PC running smooth.

As your getting started, just remember this isn't brain surgery, it may seem difficult but once you do it, you can tell everyone and be proud. Your rewards will be huge, the increased performance will be significant and you can happily use your computer without having to worry about it going sluggish on you.
