Common Hair Loss Cause in Women

By: Sarah Rowe

For 1 in 4 women today there are a number of different reasons as to why they suddenly start to lose their hair. In fact, because more and more women are seeking ways of treating this problem, we are learning more about it daily. Below we will look at two of the main hair loss women causes.

1. Androgenetic Alopecia known as female pattern baldness, in men it is known as male pattern baldness. You will find that with men, they lose their hair completely and for women with this condition it will result in the hair covering their scalp becoming thinner.

In many cases where women are suffering from this kind of hair loss, it can be narrowed down to a couple of different factors. In some women, the problem has arisen because there is an increase in the amount of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) that their body is producing. Too much of this hormone in the body will bind to the hair follicles and prevent regrowth to take place.

However, as well as an increase in certain hormones in the body another main reason for a woman to suffer from this form of hair loss is due to their genetic makeup. In many cases, the woman's parents both have a gene that they have passed on and which results in hair loss.

2. Telogen Effluvium is caused when a woman goes through some traumatic event in her life. In many cases, women who have a traumatic childbirth, have been malnourished, undergo any form of major surgery, suffer severe stress, or an infection can see that they start to lose their hair.

With this particular hair loss problem a person will not see anything until about 6 weeks or 3 months after the traumatic event has happened. In some cases where the condition is severe, it can result in the woman losing large amounts of hair at any one time. But it can be treated and in many cases, the problem will go into remission and as long as they are able to avoid situations that may cause it to happen again, they should have no problems in the future.

However, the condition can be so severe that it may take a considerable amount of time (months or years) before it is under control. In many cases, women find that in order to treat it they first need to understand what has actually triggered the condition in the first place.

Above are the two most common kinds of hair loss in women and causes, which should hopefully help you to understand it. Knowing what hair loss women cause, can then help them to get the right kind of treatment that will prevent the condition from becoming any worse.
