You have the right to call yourself a successful business manager after years of successful experience in the field. But to get there, you will often need to go through mistakes, hardships, and not to mention a college degree. But to help shorten the learning curve, business managers can learn from other's mistakes- and become better managers as a result.

All the college and theory in the world won't make a good manager. But following the principles of good management tactics and experience in the field will essentially make the best business manager possible. The trick is to learn from the mistakes of others, and use their experiences as a meter stick to your own.

First, it is important to reward good ideas, behavior, and work ethic to those who deserve it. Too often businesses lose great team members because they feel they aren't being compensated fairly for their hard work. Try to reward the team members in a public environment, so as to inspire other less-satisfactory team members to also strive for success.

Another good tip to keep in mind is a rather old principle: treat others as you wish to be treated. Even if managers and common "grunt" workers don't have the same status or recognition, there should be no reason why managers should talk down to them or treat them poorly. On the contrary, respect creates loyalty, good efficiency in the work area, and better work ethic.

Once the pleasantries and rewards are set in place, focus on getting your employees to work as a team. After all, you hire multiple employees to work together and benefit from each other's aid- so if they aren't on the same level you will be losing business efficiency. Planning employee parties or events is the best way to get everyone on the same level.

Complex Managerial Theories

All too often, business managers will put off problems until staff meetings or until the problems grow larger. This is quite possibly the biggest threat to work efficiency there is. Don't wait until the end of the month to address a problem- especially if the problem is affecting work performance. Try to keep staff meetings as more of a debriefing rather than a therapy session.

Punishment is another subject that many business managers get wrong. It has become common to reprimand employees in front of others to "set an example." But what managers are doing by this is discrediting the loyalty the reprimanded employee has in the company- and that is far worse than "setting an example."
