Brian Tracy's Law of Forced Efficiency

Read this article only if you are really serious about doubling your productivity. Business leaders around the world turn to Brian Tracy for tips on increasing their success. Following his instructions will push you to the front of your field.

Brian calls this law the Law of Forced Efficiency. It says:

"There's never enough time to do everything, but there's always enough time to do the most important things."

There are Four Great Questions that Brian Tracy recommends for finding your most valuable task, right now:

1. Before you start on anything, always ask yourself "What is going to be the most important thing for me to do right now?"

2. Why am I paid? What did my company hire me to do? What should I work on that will most determine my success?

3. What tasks do you do, when done right, make a significant difference?

4. What can you work on right now, in this moment, that will make the greatest impact?

You must answer these questions honestly and clearly. As you ask yourself these questions and work on the answers all day, you will soon double your productivity.

Remember to get input from your boss. He has the best understanding and insight into what he thinks you can contribute most to right now.

Where to Go From Here

1. Make a list of everything you need to get done.

2. Ask the Four Great Questions about each of the items on your list.

3. Once you identify the most valuable use of your time, start working on that task right away.
