Baby Shower Invitations Take A Bit Of Careful Thought

Your baby shower is a special event and as such it is only fitting that you would want to formally invite the guests. So, unless a baby shower is going to be a surprise or is being arranged at short notice, then written invitations are almost always the most appropriate method to use. If this is not possible then inviting your guests personally by phone is an acceptable alternative but e-mailed invitations should be avoided despite the fact that they might appear to be quick and convenient.

As is the case with any invitation to a party your guests will need some basic details such as the name of the person who is the subject of the shower, the name of the host, the date and time of the shower, the location and details of how to reply.

One other thing to think about including is details of the theme for the event or the shower gift registry and this can be somewhat tricky because a lot of people feel that this is a bit presumptuous and puts excessive pressure on your guests. Naturally this is a matter of personal choice, but one solution which usually works is to leave this off your invitations, request you guests to reply by phone and then slip this tactfully into the conversion if guests do confirm their attendance. Do not forget though that you will have to have this information to hand when your guests telephone and etiquette says that you should only give out any shower gift registry information if your guest asks for it. When your baby shower is to be a formal affair then you cannot go wrong if you stick to etiquette but, if your shower is not so formal and includes just close friends then you can probably get away with relaxing the rules a bit.

The timeline for a baby shower is important and the greater the notice your guests are given the better. consequently, you should aim to mail the invitations out 4 to 6 weeks ahead of the shower date and this is particularly important if out of town guests are being invited. When this is not possible then you should certainly aim to get your invitations out a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks prior to the event. A good period of notice allows your guests to organize their personal schedules, reply and go shopping for appropriate gifts.

It is also quite important that you request your guests to telephone you to let you know if they will be attending. With everything involved in organizing the shower the last thing you want to do is to have to telephone around to find out whether some of the guest plan on attending. Nonetheless, there will invariably be some guests who do not reply and so a week or so before the shower date you will have to make time to call those people to find out their intentions. An accurate head count will be of considerable help when it comes to making the necessary arrangements for your special day.
