Unless you're completely brand new to doing business on the internet, you'll have heard about article marketing. Article marketing is how a regular person like you or me can gain a foothold into niche markets and target interested and motivated visitors and turn them into interested and motivated buyers.

Without a doubt article marketing is the most powerful way in which one can promote a website. Done properly article marketing is the effective way for getting targeted traffic to your site as well as helping to build backlinks. A short but informative article in order to promote a site may seem to take a lot of effort, but the returns you get are quite phenomenal. So just how does article marketing work for an online business?

To start with, for little or no cost, you can write articles and submit them to various article directories and other websites. In turn, these directories and websites publish your articles on their sites. The cumulative affect of this is that your site's search engine rankings will naturally rise due to all the backlinks you've gained from other sites using your content.

Article marketing is extremely viral. As you will find it only takes one well written article using the appropriate targeting keywords will allow you to generate numerous links back to your site or to some other designated landing page.

Another benefit that article marketing provides you with is that it allows you as a new website owner or author to build a reputation for being an authority in the niche you have selected. When someone comes across one of yours through an article directly and finds them self keen to click on your link and visit your site, then this offers you the opportunity to now develop a relationship with them. Now it is up to you to start cultivating that relationship further by offering them more content that they find relevant and address any questions, wants or needs that they may have.

At various times, you'll hear that article marketing is no longer effective or that submitting an article to hundreds of article directories does nothing more than create duplicate content and puts a site at risk of being de-indexed by the top search engines.

However let us put aside the arguments in relation to duplicate just for now. Article marketing is still every bit as effective as other traffic or promotional tools being touted today. Different strategies for promoting business are coming and going all the time, however with article marketing it strength lies in the fact that the World Wide Web relies on it. There is a constant need for fresh and relevant content to be available for people to read and use.

Each and every day millions of potential customers are going online searching for information. By giving these potential customers the information they want you are placing yourself in a position from which you can profit. By writing many articles you will soon attact a steady stream of traffic to your websites. It's then just down to your site whether you convert that traffic into sales.

Article marketing is the one free or nearly free strategy to promote a product or website that anyone can do. It is an excellent way to bring in targeted traffic if you are willing to work at it consistently and for the long-term.

Writing informative articles that use well researched keywords no matter what niche you are involved in cannot only get your more exposure, but increase your rankings in search engines. However, submitting the same article to numerous article directories or specialist websites will dilute just how effective your article marketing efforts are.

For your article marketing to succeed you should be aiming to submit unique versions of articles that you write to directories and websites. This may seem somewhat of a daunting task initially but the results you get back will be worth all the effort in the end. Gone are the risks of you producing duplicate content and slipping in search engine rankings. Yet whilst the definition of what actually constitutes duplicate content continues to be a subject for discussion, the majority of experienced webmasters are happy for around 30% difference in each article written.

Yet the greater the difference between each article written, then the better this is for your online business. However, you need to keep in mind that the spiders used by top search engines not only review entire web pages but also will look at other elements on a page and take these into consideration. So even a small 30% change between one article and the next can being more than sufficient to avoid yours being ignored.

Submitting unique versions of your articles is the smartest way to undertake article marketing. Not only are you gaining targeted traffic, but the boost in ranking tends to last longer from backlinks you build through marketing unique articles.
