Are Internet Home Business Opportunities Legitimate?

By: David Gates

Is it possible to find a legitimate home based business opportunity online? This question is foremost on the minds of people who want a career using their computer at home. These opportunities are very helpful to those at home, either to watch children or those disabled, allowing them to make money without a 9 to 5 job.

Recognizing the market potential there are many legitimate online businesses that have come up with attractive schemes for getting the best of home based workers in their fold. Before you set about making money on the internet, here are some points to consider:

Check out the “business information” or “about us” page on the website and look for location, phone number, investors, references, and recognitions. If possible, check out the physical location and do a quick check on the company.

Also, it is important to find out the method of payment from a company prior to working. A company with an escrow account ensures that both parties will be treated fairly and you will get paid for doing the work that was agreed on prior by both sides.

The third thing to check for is what information is asked of you upfront, including references, samples, and a statement of intent. A good business will require all this information, and perhaps more, prior to you starting to work for them.

The fourth thing is to check out the methods of communication between the business and workers and amongst the workers themselves. A good online business will have forums or mail groups that allow communication between the workers to share experiences and tips as well as provide a way for workers to provide feedback to the employer.

The fifth thing to look out for is if the business provider asks for money in advance to allow you to start working. A legitimate business should not have to ask for a deposit from you to work. The exception to this rule is if the employer is providing the worker with something in advance such as educational materials, either in physical form or electronic form.

Last, before devoting large amounts of time in a new business opportunity, try doing a few hours to see how the payments come through. If the company works well for you and you develop confidence, you can feel better about investing more time with the company. By following these simple rules you will have researched well and been able to avoid any scams.
