American Idol: Disappointing Sales for Jordin Sparks' Debut Album?

As early as now, word is going around that the self-titled debut album of American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks is garnering disappointing sales records. In fact, the numbers so far are indicating that the album will finish in an extremely disappointing ninth place on the charts with only around 100,000 sold. This is really something questionable for someone like an American Idol winner. Last year, Taylor Hicks' debut album sold 300,000 in its first week. It's sad that Jordin Sparks couldn't even make half the success of Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride, which has been on the charts since its release a few months ago.

Jordin Sparks' debut album initially received positive reviews, and predictions assumed that the album would do well. However, there may be some factors to consider why the album became somewhat a failure. The album release was on Tuesday, right before "Black Friday," the biggest shopping day of the year. During this period, Wal-Mart has an exclusive deal with The Eagles and their new album, which landed fourth place, way ahead of Sparks . The High School Musical 2 soundtrack made a come back in the top ten, probably because of parents who bought it as a gift for their kids. Josh Groban grabbed the top spot with his Christmas album, followed closely by Alicia Keys.

Right now, American Idol fans may be wondering how runner-up Blake Lewis fares when his debut album entitled "ADD: Audio Day Dream" is released on Tuesday, December 4. Lewis may be more dynamic compared to Sparks , who is at least a good singer. However, Lewis does have a lot more to give such as in the song writing department and Sonics experimentations. Sparks , however, may have a lack of spark, but hopefully her record sales would gain some momentum in the coming weeks.
