Indie actress/writer/director Adrienne Shelly was born Adrienne Levine on June 16, 1966, in Queens, New York. Shelly was raised on Long Island and enjoyed playing baseball as a youngster. When she was just twelve years old, her father passed away, and Shelly took on his first name as her new surname. Shelly began acting when she was ten years old at a performing arts camp and while attending high school, she landed her first professional acting gig in a summer stock production of Annie. Shelly went on to study at Boston University before getting a start in independent film making.
